The following is the list of cities and towns in Belarus. Neither Belarusian nor Russian have equivalent words to English "city" and "town". The word ''horad''〔The transliterations are provided of Belarusian words.〕 ((ベラルーシ語:горад), (ロシア語:город)) is used for both. But Belarusian legislature provides the three-level hierarchy.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Закон Республики Беларусь от 5 мая 1998 года № 154-З "Об административно-территориальном делении и порядке решения вопросов административно-территориального устройства Республики Беларусь" )〕 ==Overview== According to the Law under May 5, 1998, the categories of the most developed urban localities in Belarus are as follows: * ''capital'' — Minsk; * ''town of voblasć subordinance'' ((ベラルーシ語:горад абласнога падпарадкавання), (ロシア語:город областного подчинения)) — urban locality with the population of not less than 50,000 people; it has its own body of self-government, known as ''Council of Deputies'' ((ベラルーシ語:Савет дэпутатаў), (ロシア語:совет депутатов)) and an executive committee ((ベラルーシ語:выканаўчы камітэт), (ロシア語:исполнительный комитет)), which stand on the level with these of a ''rajon'' ((ベラルーシ語:раён)). * ''town of rajon surbodinance'' ((ベラルーシ語:горад раённага падпарадкавання), (ロシア語:город районного подчинения)) — urban locality with the population of more than 6,000 people; it may have its own body of self-government ((ベラルーシ語:Савет дэпутатаў), (ロシア語:совет депутатов)) and an executive committee ((ベラルーシ語:выканаўчы камітэт), (ロシア語:исполнительный комитет)), which belong to the same level as these of rural councils and of s.c. ''haradski pasiolak'' ((ベラルーシ語:гарадскі пасёлак), (ロシア語:городской посёлок)) (a type of a smaller urban locality).
